🏈 "You look at any of those photos and you're like, 'That's BYU!' Our players in the past can connect with us [through this identity]."

But for now, it’s 26 different uniform combinations.
“The way that we went about doing this is that we left a lot of room for innovation. This is 2021. I’m sure 2022 we will roll out a different identity guide,” said Nixon to KSL Sports. “And when we went with just these 26 options, it was actually kind of depressing because there’s probably 10 options that at the end of the meeting, the players are like, ‘oh man, if only we had 10 more games. Because we don’t want to lose out on wearing these options either.’
“So all the options we’ve presented of the 26, the players love every single one. This was player-driven and that’s what it is about. Heightening the player experience, we couldn’t do it without players being involved in every aspect of the decision-making process.”
Each uniform and helmet is a nod to BYU’s past. The white helmet with royal blue stripes was iconic in the 1980s and 1990s for BYU. Navy blue helmets became the identity of the program from 1999-2004. Then in 2005, white helmets returned with navy blue stripes and an Oval Y.
During the 1960s, BYU had a royal blue helmet.
