BYU Football Lands Boise State Transfer QB Cade Fennegan

PROVO, Utah – BYU football continues to build up the quarterback room. The latest addition is Boise State transfer Cade Fennegan.
Fennegan announced on social media that he was transferring to BYU.

“After much consideration I have decided to enter the transfer portal. I’m excited to announce that I’ve been offered a scholarship to play at BYU and will be transferring there this fall. Thank you to [Kalani Sitake] and [Aaron Roderick] for this opportunity! Go Cougs,” exclaimed Fennegan.
Moments before Fennegan announced his commitment to BYU, offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick tweeted out a Bill Murray gif, which this summer has been code for a new offensive commit is about to announce.

BYU football fans saw Fennegan in action last season. After Boise State QB Jack Sears was injured early in the game last November, Bryan Harsin turned to the young Fennegan. It was the first game of his collegiate career, taking meaningful snaps.
Fennegan finished the game 15-of-26 for 182 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His quarterback rating was 27.1 for the game. However, it was difficult for him to be in as BYU’s offense torched the Broncos defense to the tune of 51 points, leaving Fennegan and the Boise offense in a hole the entire game.
Fennegan will be eligible immediately for BYU in 2021 due to the NCAA’s one-time waiver rule for undergrad transfers. He will enter the program as a true freshman as last year did not count towards anyone’s eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cade Fennegan's father, Garth, was a blue-chip QB recruit out of Texas in the early 1990s.
Originally signed with Clemson then transferred to #BYU.

Fennegan’s father, Garth, is a former BYU player from 1990-1993. Garth was a blue-chip recruit out of Harlington, Texas, who originally signed with Clemson. He opted to transfer after one year with the Tigers because he wanted to throw the football more. He picked BYU over Arkansas.
During his career at BYU, Fennegan ended up switching to defensive back.
Fennegan is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Argentina before enrolling at Boise State in the 2020 season.
With the addition of Fennegan, BYU is now back to six signal-callers in their quarterback room. This off-season, BYU added walk-on Utah transfer Nick Billoups to go along with Fennegan. BYU’s top three quarterbacks vying to replace Zach Wilson as the starter in 2021 include Jaren Hall, Baylor Romney, and Jacob Conover.
