SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake midfielder Albert Rusnak converted a penalty kick to give RSL a big lead over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night.
Albert Rusnak took the penalty kick for RSL after Justin Meram was tackled inside the 18-yard box by a Vancouver defender. The official called a penalty and Rusnak hit the bottom left corner of the goal, barely passing the finger tips of the Whitecaps goalkeeper.
It’s the second goal of the season for Rusnak and the 32 of his career in five seasons with RSL.

Just 43 seconds into the match, Damir Kreilach got the ball inside the 18-yard box with a defender on his hip when he poked the ball with his right foot. The ball traveled far post past the keeper and gave RSL a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the match.
The second goal for Kreilach was set up by a ball from Justin Meram into the box where Dami got his head on it and it went into the back of the net. That gave RSL a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute.
With Vancouver not allowed to travel outside of Canada, they are playing all of their matches at Rio Tinto Stadium. Wednesday’s match is considered a road game for Real Salt Lake.
