During the qualifying process, Martinez played a key role in assisting Honduras to qualify for the Olympics. Honduras knocked out the United States in the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying tournament to gift a nation of just 10 million a chance at an Olympic medal.
Currently, Martinez has been out of form with RSL and has been spending the past few weeks at the Real Monarchs in the United Soccer League. The opportunity for Martinez to find form at the Olympics comes during an interesting period in his career.
