SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence broke down the coaching style of former Utah Utes and first-year NFL head coach Urban Meyer.
Lawrence recently discussed Meyer’s coaching with KSLSports.com’s Kyle Ireland.
The Jaguars hired Meyer as the team’s head coach in January.
On April 29, Jacksonville selected Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
“I’ve just gotten to see more of his personality and kind of who he is just as I’m around him more,” Lawrence told KSLSports.com. “Obviously, I only had a few phone conversations before I was here. So being able to be around him more and get a feel for how he communicates with his staff and with us as a team, and all of his players. And he is very intense.”

The former Clemson star said that Meyer has already set “super clear” expectations for the Jaguars.
“The expectations are super clear and I think that’s always really important when you’re talking about a leader or a great coach,” Lawrence continued. “The communication has to be precise and everyone has to be on the same page. And he knows how to do that. He has everyone in line. And we all know what’s expected of us. So there’s no excuse, if we are doing what we’re expected to do.”

Lawrence added that Meyer has a “good balance” coaching style and is able to hold a “normal conversation” with his players.
“But also I’ve seen the side of him that can have a normal conversation with you,” Lawrence said. “He knows how to be personable and communicate with his players. And it’s not just all ball all the time. I think he has a good balance, but certainly is focused, driven and wants to win.”
Meyer and Lawrence will begin their first NFL seasons when the Jaguars play the Houston Texans on September 12.
