Utah QB Charlie Brewer Among Top Transfers In 2021 Offseason
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Baylor QB and new Utah signal caller Charlie Brewer was listed as one of the top transfers during the 2021 offseason.
Charlie Brewer decided to enter the transfer portal following his fourth season at Baylor and decided to join Utah on December 13, 2020.
College football analyst R.J. Young of FOX Sports released his top 5 transfers of the offseason to this point and put Brewer to Utah at No. 2 on his list.
Young put former Texas safety Xavion Howard at No. 1 after deciding to go to USC. After Brewer at No. 2, Young put former Ohio State WR Mookie Cooper going to Missouri at No. 3. Then former Tennessee RB Ty Chandler going to North Carolina at No. 4. Former Oklahoma WR Charleston Rambo going to Miami at No. 5 on his list.
“Now Utah could have three other dudes on this list for me,” Young said. “You got Chris Curry, running back from LSU transfer to Utah. You got TJ Pledger transfer from Oklahoma to Utah. You got to Ja’Quinden Jackson, another Texas ex, all the way out there to Salt Lake City. But Charlie Brewer fits for Utah one because they have been something of a transfer destination gives you a dude that can battle right away with Cam Rising. But you return 11 starters on that defense…So you have a defense with Morgan Scalley that you know you can depend on. But Charlie Brewer adds a layer to this in that he is one of the best completers of passes and then add the layer of he’s been to the Sugar Bowl.
“He knows what it means to compete in a conference championship game against one of the better teams in the country,” Young added. “I think Utah can really start thinking of themselves as being a favorite to win the Pac-12 South, I think it’s going to be them and or USC. Charlie Brewer gives you a capable winner, a capable leader, a grad transfer, so you don’t have to worry about whether or not he’s gonna be eligible to play. Charlie Brewer is an absolutely outstanding passer of the football and he’s been on an 11-win Baylor team, that’s where Utah wants to go next year.”
Brewer had an amazing career with the Bears. He threw for 9,700 yards, 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in 44 games played. His best season was as a junior in 2019 when he had 3,161 passing yards for 21 TD’s and 7 INT’s. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention and was the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award finalist. Baylor finished the 2019 season with an 11-3 record, falling to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game and lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
In four seasons, Brewer ran for 1,039 yards and 22 touchdowns.
In 2020, the veteran QB threw for 1,958 yards, 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Baylor went 2-7 this season with wins over Kansas and Kansas State. They lost to West Virginia (2 OT), Texas, TCU, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
