PROVO, Utah – BYU football is bringing back the blackout uniforms for the first time since 2016.

The Cougars Equipment staff, led by Billy Nixon, has found creative ways to keep each week different on the uniform combination front. On Saturday, after BYU’s 66-14 drubbing of North Alabama, there was a tease that the Cougars were going to be rocking an alternate uniform.

Later in the evening, injured tight end Matt Bushman rolled into the postgame locker room to unveil what uniform his teammates would be wearing on Dec. 12 against San Diego State.

Bushman was decked out in the blackout uniform with royal blue stripes and a black helmet that features a royal blue decal. This is the same uniform the Cougars wore against UNLV in 2014 and Utah State in 2016.

A special moment for Bushman, who has been out this entire season due to a freak Achilles injury he suffered back on Aug. 30 during practice. Players were cheering and celebrating the fan-favorite threads they’ll be rocking against the Aztecs.

With the addition of the black uniforms, BYU will have worn nine different uniform combinations in their 10 scheduled regular-season games during the 2020 season.
