The previous three games this season have seen BYU wore uniforms that feature royal blue. Last year, BYU wore this uniform combination against No. 24 USC and the Cougars pulled off an upset victory over the Trojans in overtime.
Navy Blue and Royal Blue are both considered official colors for the university.
On BYU’s official brand colors page regarding Navy Blue, “Navy suggests excellence, intelligence, integrity, and depth of character.”
BYU switched from royal to navy blue in 1999, where the Cougars also introduced tan as an accent color. In 2005, former head coach Bronco Mendenhall brought back BYU’s iconic oval Y helmet in navy blue and white. The Cougars have used it as one of their primary looks throughout the past 15 years.
Last year, BYU was 2-0 in games wearing the navy blue uniform with white pants featuring navy blue stripes.
