Weber Holds Off No. 9 Davis For Upset Road Win

KAYSVILLE, Utah – The Weber Warriors held off a big comeback by Davis but picked up a big upset win over the ninth ranked Darts, 32-26.
The Region 1 matchup was the Game Night Live Game of the Week. Weber had a 24-7 halftime lead before the Darts had the lead late in the game before Weber scored in the final minutes.
The Warriors had a big performance from quarterback Jake Lindsay, who threw 3 touchdown passes and ran in the game-winning TD. Cannon DeVries caught two touchdowns and Jett Child added a receiving score.
Davis picked up one rushing touchdown from quarterback Chance Trujillo along with two rushing TD’s from Spencer Ferguson.

Weber’s Offense, Defense Take Over First Half
The first drive of the game belonged to Davis. The ball was thrown to the end zone where it was picked off by the Warriors. Weber capitalized with a touchdown pass from Jake Lindsay to Cannon DeVries from 55-yards out. The Warriors took a 7-0 lead with 4:32 remaining in the first quarter.
On the first play of the second quarter, Spencer Ferguson ran in an 11-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7 with 11:53 until halftime. At that point, Ferguson had 117 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards.
Moments later, Lindsay connected with Jett Child with a 25-yard touchdown. The Warriors took the lead back, 14-7 with 10:21 remaining in the second quarter. When Davis attempted to tie the game again, Trujillo threw his second interception of the game. Weber returned the pick to the Davis 11-yard line. Lindsay found a wide-open DeVries for a 4-yard touchdown. That put the Warriors up 21-7 with 7:21 left in the first half.
With under 30 seconds left in the half, the Warriors picked up a field goal to extend their lead to 24-7.

Warriors Hold Off Davis’ Comeback Attempt
Weber started the third quarter with the ball but Davis’ defense forced them to punt. The Darts had a long drive with chunk plays spread throughout the possession. They scored their second touchdown of the night when Ferguson found the end zone on a two-yard run, cutting the deficit to 24-14 with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Near the end of the third period, Weber punted the ball for just 8 yards, setting Davis up with great field position. On the first play of the drive, David Spjut took the ball for a 53-yard catch to the Weber 5-yard line. The next play, Trujillo ran in a 5-yard touchdown to continue their comeback attempt. Weber had a 24-20 lead with 1:15 left in the third quarter after the Warriors blocked the extra point.
Weber couldn’t get anything going on their next drive early in the fourth quarter, giving Davis the opportunity to take the lead. They did just that as Trujillo ran in his second touchdown of the game. The Warriors attempted a fake PAT but it failed. Davis had a 26-24 lead with 5:56 left in the game. On third and 7, Lindsay found DeVries down at the Davis 12-yard line.
On third down again, Lindsay ran in a 12-yard touchdown to put the Warriors back on top, 32-26 with 2:36 left in the game after getting the two-point conversion. Davis trucked down the field as Ferguson received the ball on a swing route at midfield and took the ball down to the Weber 13-yard line. A massive call took place when Trujillo was called for intentional grounding. On 4th and 32, Davis couldn’t punch it into the end zone.
Weber improved their record to 6-1 on the season. They will play their regular season finale next Friday, October 9 at home against Roy at 7 p.m.
