No. 20 Herriman Claims Upset Victory Over No. 12 Westlake

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 20th ranked Herriman Mustangs held off the 12th ranked Westlake Thunder to pick up a 17-15 win.

Westlake scored a field goal to get the scoring going in the second quarter. Afa Kula gave Herriman the lead with a rushing TD. Logan Ashton put the Thunder up with a pick-six. The Mustangs responded with a field goal and a 17-yard rushing touchdown Cody Lazenby.

The Thunder came up short after Zach Childs threw a TD to Brayden Perry but they failed the two-point conversion that would have tied the game.

Here is all of the results in the 6A classification from the fourth week of the high school football season.

Region 1

No. 6 Davis 49 at Clearfield 25

The Darts jumped out to a 35-10 lead in the first half. Clearfield answered with 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to trim Davis’ lead to 35-25 but the No. 6 ranked team in the state put the game away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Chance Trujillo accounted for 3 touchdowns for the Darts, two passing and one rushing. He connected with Owen Murdock and David Spjut. Spencer Ferguson added 3 rushing TD’s. For the Falcons, Bransen Simper threw one touchdown pass to Joshua Qualls. Both Kai Wirth and Ty Ha’o each ran in a score.

Layton 6 at No. 10 Roy 35

It was all Roy in the first three quarters, scoring 7, 21 and 7 points respectively before the Lancers found the end zone. Sione Vailahi scored Layton’s only touchdown. For the Royals, Parker Kingston threw one touchdown pass to Izzy Gordon, while running in two more scores. Gordon and Valencia each had a rushing touchdown in the win for Roy.

Northridge 0 at Fremont 37

A 21-point second quarter for Fremont boosted them to a shoutout victory for Northridge. Jayce Storey and Jacob Palmer each scored a rushing TD, while Cannon Kofford threw a touchdown pass to Jaxson McFarland. Christian Blanch had a pick-six as well.

Weber 31 at Syracuse 7

Weber scored all 31 points in the second and third quarters. Syracuse found the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Jake Lindsay threw two touchdown passes to two different targets in Cole Brosterhous and Spencer Hall. Cannon Devries and Gage Lloyd each had a rushing TD. For the Titans, Cameron Gunn connected with Bryson Cortes for a TD.

Region 2

Cyprus 7 at West 18

The Panthers scored first with a 65-yard rushing TD from Sesi Vailahi. The Pirates answered with a touchdown run by L.J. Cohee. It was all West after that with a safety early in the second quarter and a Carson Lopati touchdown pass to Clarence Bird Butler late in the first half. They added a field goal late in the third quarter.

Hunter 28 at West Jordan 35 (2OT)

It was a classic in West Jordan. The Wolverines started with a 64-yard rushing touchdown from Lorenzo Tua’one. West Jordan responded with a 10-yard TD by Inoke Vi. Tua’one scored again to regain the lead. The Jaguars tied the game late in the second quarter as Boston Farmer threw a touchdown pass to Dylan Rainy. Hunter took the lead into the halftime break with another rushing TD from Tua’one. After a scoreless third quarter, the Jaguars scored the game-tying TD with a run by Farmer. In the first overtime period, Josh Harding found Nathan Suaste for a 7-yard TD. Farmer ran in a one-yard score to force the second overtime. Farmer scored the game-winning rushing TD. He finished with three rushing touchdowns and one passing TD. For Hunter, Tua’one ran in three scores.

Taylorsville 3 at No. 8 Kearns 84

Taylorsville scored their only three points early in the ball game. That was it for them and Kearns went off. It started with a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown by Jeff Bassa. The Cougars scored 39 points in the first and 21 in the second to take a 60-3 lead at the halftime break. They added 15 points in the third quarter and 9 in the fourth. Iosefa Toia’ivao threw five touchdowns to four different targets, finding Jack Kelly twice and one to Isaac Luckart, Keishaun Dudley and Omar Polanco. Naki Leha ran in three touchdowns. Joe Alusa returned a blocked kick 75-yards for a score and Kapeli Smith had a 60-yard kick return for a TD.

Non-Region

Timpview 21 at No. 13 Bingham 31

On Thursday night, Timpview lost their third straight game while Bingham picked up their first win of 2020. The Miners jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first half with two touchdown runs by Troy Mehn as well as a rushing score by Cael Wightman. Timpview scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter and early in the fourth to pull within three points. The Miners put the game away with a rushing touchdown by Saia Lomu with 1:03 remaining. For the Thunderbirds, Liu Aumavae connected with Pokai Haunga for a TD. Elijah Allen added a 28-yard scoop and score while BYU commit Raider Damuni had a 34-yard pick-six.

No. 1 Corner Canyon 51 at Jordan 14

Jaxson Dart threw two of six touchdown passes from 70-yards or longer, both were to Cody Hagen from 95-yards and 70-yards respectively. Noah Kjar caught three touchdowns with Jett Meine adding one. Hayden Easterly ran in Corner Canyon’s only rushing touchdown.

East 49 at No. 3 American Fork 69

It was a shootout in Utah county but it took a 21-point third quarter for American Fork to pull away. Maddux Madsen threw nine touchdown passes, three to both Fisher Ingersoll and BYU commit Noah Moeaki while getting one TD pass to Garrison Grimes, Trey Roberts and Will Zundel. Spike Adams added one rushing TD for the Cavemen.

Granger 6 at Riverton 35

Granger scored their only touchdown first before Riverton scored 28 points in the second quarter. Their defense were the players putting up points. Brayden Hunkin had a 73-yard pick-six before Braden Woodruff scored the Silverwolves only offensive touchdown. Woolley Cooper added a 54-yard scoop and score while Andrew Schouten and Caden Meyers each had a pick-six.

No. 14 Wasatch 10 at No. 5 Pleasant Grove 36

The Vikings remained undefeated after a big second quarter, scoring 20 points. Early in the second quarter, Sam Leavitt threw a touchdown to Jace Doman followed by a TD pass to Isaac Vaha. Rex Connors found Porter Connors before halftime. Spencer Tauteoli ran in a touchdown while Leavitt connected with Darrius Clemons midway through the fourth quarter. For Wasatch, Adarius Edwards threw a touchdown pass to La’A Kalama.
