SEATTLE, Wash. – Former Utah defensive end/linebacker Pita Taumoepenu has reportedly re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle decided to cut Taumoepenu on May 5 but is bringing him back to the pacific northwest.
Seattle Seahawks reporter for ESPN, Brady Henderson reported the move.
Taumoepenu (listed at 6-1, 245) has been a pass-rusher in the past, so perhaps the Seahawks are bringing him back with that role in mind more so than linebacker. They waived UDFA defensive end Eli Mencer as injured to make room for Paul Richardson yesterday.

Last season, Taumoepenu spent time on the Seahawks’ practice squad. The former sixth round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 played six games in his first two seasons in the bay area, collecting three tackles. Taumoepenu has also spent some time with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Timpview high school product played for the Utes from 2013-16. During his time in college, he played 26 games. He racked up 67 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
His best season was his senior year where he racked up 41 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
