PROVO, Utah – We are only days away from the 2020 football season and to help welcome in another season of Cougar football the KSL sports staff has voted on the Top 10 players heading into this season.

1. Senior Tight End, Matt Bushman – Unanimous selection as the top BYU football player heading into his senior season by the KSL sports staff, Bushman has led the Cougars in receiving yards in each of the past three seasons.

Bushman suffered an injury Monday night at practice and was carted off the field. He’s out for the entire 2020 season.

2. Senior Defensive Tackle, Khyiris Tonga – Tonga returned to Provo looking to increase his draft stock by becoming a consistently disruptive lineman.

3. Junior Center, James Empey – He graded out as the top pass-blocking center in 2019 according to Pro Football Focus. He was also named the most underrated center heading into 2020.

4. Junior Quarterback, Zach Wilson – Finally healthy after battling injuries last season, Wilson will look to be the first BYU quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards under Kalani Sitake.

5. Senior Linebacker, Isaiah Kaufusi – The leader of the linebacker group will look to lead a deep and talented position group.

6. Offensive Tackle, Brady Christensen – Expectations are sky-high for the junior tackle who is assigned with the task of protecting the blindside of Zach Wilson. He’s received high praise from offensive line coach Eric Mateos.

7. Senior Safety, Zayne Anderson – Anderson trained at cornerback in the spring, but he’s returned to the safety position for his final campaign.

8. Junior Safety, Chaz Ah You – Ah You will move away from his linebacker position to add depth at safety and possibly the nickel position.

9. Senior Safety, Troy Warner – Fully healthy, Warner is one the leaders of the defense.

10. Sophomore Linebacker, Payton Wilgar – Wilgar was a pleasant surprise in his freshman season, leading the team with three interceptions and 54 tackles.

Just missed the cut: Safety Kavika Fonua, Cornerback Chris Wilcox, and Offensive lineman Tristen Hoge.
