Getting To Know BYU’s Newest Football Foe: Troy Trojans

PROVO, Utah – Any BYU football scheduling news for the 2020 season is a welcome sight. While many leagues and teams are postponing or canceling their seasons, BYU moves forward adding games. The latest, a matchup against the Troy Trojans from the Sun Belt Conference.
BYU and Troy University have agreed to a home-and-home football series, with the first game being played on Sept. 26, 2020 in LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Many BYU fans might not know much about the Trojans which is understandable. The Cougars and Trojans have never squared off in football before.
They will meet coming up on September 26th, 2020 in Provo, and then BYU will make a return visit to Troy, Alabama to open the 2026 season.

Top players on Troy Football in 2020
Kaylon Geiger is considered to be one of the top wide receivers in the Sun Belt Conference this fall. Along with Geiger, Reggie Todd is another standout receiver who also is one of the top kick returners. The Trojans are led offensively by coordinator Ryan Pugh who coached at BYU in 2018 as the Cougars offensive line coach.
Defensively, Will Choloh along the defensive line and Carlton Martial at linebacker are two names to watch in the box. Then in the defensive secondary keep an eye on Dell Pettus.

One of the unique aspects to BYU’s Independent path is that the Cougars can create a schedule that allows them to play teams from coast to coast. The Troy Trojans are one of 42 teams that BYU has never faced on the gridiron.
