PROVO, Utah – Another game has been added to BYU Football’s 2020 schedule. BYU and Troy will meet on September 26th during the 2020 season.
Like the game against Navy, BYU has a connection to the coaching staff on the Troy Trojans. Offensive Coordinator Ryan Pugh is a former BYU offensive line coach and close friend to BYU’s Jeff Grimes.

BYU and Troy have never faced off in football before. One of 42 FBS programs the Cougars have not played in their 97-year history.
The Cougars will make a return trip to Troy on September 5th, 2026.
The Trojans hail from Troy, Alabama, and are a member of the Sun Belt Conference. A league that is trying to play a full 12-game schedule this fall.
With the addition of Troy, BYU now has four games on a 2020 schedule that they are trying to pull off amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
BYU has been one of the hardest-hit programs by schools and conferences canceling seasons. Ten of BYU’s original 12 games have been canceled from the schedule.
Considering the circumstances, adding any game is a nice addition. But Troy has shown to be a solid program over the years. Up until last year’s 5-7 campaign, the Trojans had three consecutive years with 10-plus wins.
This matchup marks only the third time in BYU’s history they’ve faced a current member of the Sun Belt Conference. The last meeting against a current Sun Belt program was in 1996 when BYU and Chad Lewis leaped over Arkansas State to a comfortable 58-9 victory.
