Report: Mountain West Expected To Finalize 10-Game Schedule With Two Non-Conference Contests

Aug 5, 2020, 2:46 PM | Updated: 11:55 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Mountain West Conference plans to finalize a 10-game 2020 schedule featuring non-conference games, according to Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.

The decision will reportedly be completed on Wednesday, August 5.

Mountain West expected to finalize 8 conference + 2 nonconference game schedule today, sources told @Stadium. One reason for 2 nonconference games is to allow Air Force to play its Commander in Chief games w/Army & Navy, source said,” McMurphy tweeted.

The expected schedule will have the Mountain West join a number of other conferences including both Power Five and Group of Five leagues in shortened schedules this season.

Utah State Aggies

Mountain West school Utah State was expected to open its 2020 campaign against a pair of Pac-12 programs in Washington State and Washington. The Pac-12 canceled non-conference games and announced a conference-only schedule in late July.

The Aggies are currently slated to host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah on Saturday, September 12.

Time for the Aggies vs. T-Birds game has yet to be announced.

BYU Cougars

The news is also good news for the BYU football team who is currently scheduled to play multiple Mountain West programs this season.

Due to other conference schedule adjustments, the Cougars are down to only six games on their 2020 slate.

BYU’s first matchup with a foe from the MWC is a home game against Utah State on Friday, October 2.

On Friday, November 6, the Cougars are scheduled to play at Boise State.

Eight days later, BYU is set to host the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday, November 14.
