SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah defensive back and future NFL Draft pick Jaylon Johnson said that he’s unlike any current NFL cornerback.

Johnson spoke about his NFL future with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker on the Fox Sports Radio program, The Odd Couple, on Friday, April 3.

“Honestly, no,” said Johnson, when asked if he had a current NFL cornerback comparison. “I try to get little tricks and traits from all of the best corners, all of the top guys. I don’t think I have a true player comparison in the league.”

The former Ute recently decided to forgo his senior season at Utah to enter the NFL. He is projected to be a high-round pick in April’s 2020 NFL Draft.

Johnson said that he does think about where and when he will be selected in the Draft but he’s ready to play for the team that picks him.

“Wherever I go, whatever round it is, whatever pick it is,” said Johnson. “I mean it’s something God felt like I should be in that situation and have that pick. Honestly, I’m just trying to stay grounded and believe in God’s plan for me.”

Coronavirus Impact On NFL Draft

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL is no longer holding the 2020 Draft in Las Vegas. NFL teams are preparing to participate in the Draft “virtually, from home, away fromt their team facilities,” according to an ESPN source.

Johnson was asked about the changes to the 2020 Draft and not having a traditional experience as a player selected.

“As a kid just watching it on TV always wanting to visualize yourself in that position. Wearing a nice suit. Just looking good. Enjoying yourself. Enjoying the event. Going up there and shaking the hand (of the NFL commissioner). Doing all that,” said Johnson. “Taking all the pictures and just the media and the exposure that the Draft normally gives you is something that you just look forward to.”

Although he won’t be able to have a traditional NFL Draft experience, Johnson said that he is going to enjoy the moment with his family. After the pandemic is over, Johnson plans to celebrate with more family and friends.

“I want to try and have a bigger celebration once all this quarantine and staying inside stuff goes away,” said Johnson.

The 2020 NFL Draft will be held from April 23-25.

Jaylon Johnson’s Utah Football Career

The defensive back played for the Utes from 2017-2019. During his three-year college career, Johnson appeared in 38 games.

He posted 102 total tackles, 88 solo tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, 7 interceptions, 28 pass breakups, and 2 touchdowns.
