An Elite 11 finalist, Maiava committed to BYU’s Aaron Roderick and Fesi Sitake over the summer. Maiava was the number one rated quarterback on BYU’s big board in the class of 2020.
One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the class of 2020, Maiava’s athleticism is what had BYU coaches excited about his potential. The Cougars have a loaded quarterback room in 2020 as Zach Wilson, Jaren Hall, and Baylor Romney will all be on scholarship. Maiava would be the fourth. If he wants to play in 2020, he might have to play another position, but he will get every opportunity to excel at quarterback.
Originally from the islands of Hawaii, Maiava and his family moved to the east coast two years ago. Was the starting quarterback at Kahuku High School in 2017.
When he was in eighth grade, Maiava received a scholarship offer from Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines while living in Hawaii.
