SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – According to Shams Charania of Stadium and the Athletic, the Utah Jazz are front runners to land Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley in a trade.
Charania posted a story that had the latest on rumors around the NBA and mentioned that the Grizzlies are intensifying talks to move Conley. He reported that the Jazz are in conversations with the Grizzlies and are the frontrunner to land the veteran point guard.
In February around the trade deadline, Utah was in the reports to acquire Conley but was not able to come to an agreement. Some reports indicated that the hiccup in the deal was Utah not willing to part with Dante Exum.

Dennis Lindsey and Justin Zanik will need to be creative in landing a deal intriguing enough to Memphis to trade Conley. They don’t have the luxury to include Ricky Rubio because he is now a free agent. It’s unlikely that he will agree to a sign and trade because the Grizzlies are going to more than likely draft Murray State point guard Ja Morant with the second overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft.
Utah would have to stack draft picks for this year as well as future picks. Other possibilities include picking up Derrick Favors’ option and trade Exum, but it’s unknown what Memphis’ interest is in the point guard with Morant joining the team and Exum recovering from an injury.
Conley averaged a career-best 21.1 points to go with his 3.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists this past season.
