Reports: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Becomes Highest-Paid Player In NFL History

SALT LAKE CITY – Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts agreed to a contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to multiple reports.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report Hurts’ new deal on Monday, April 17.

The deal will pay the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback more than $51 million per season and contains a no-trade clause, a first in Eagles history.

“The monster deal also includes $15 million in incentives, meaning Hurts can earn up to a record $54 million per year in new money and up to $274.304 million total through 2028, including $4.304 million that he would’ve been due in the last year of his original rookie contract,” the NFL insider added in an additional tweet.

Pelissero also noted that the deal, led by agent Nicole Lynn, is the believed to be the “largest deal completed by a female agent in sports history.”

Hurts is the first quarterback in NFL history to earn more than $50 million in a season and the fifth to make more than $45 million.

Last season, Hurts was the runner-up for the NFL MVP award.

He’s been coached by former Utah Utes and current Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson since 2021.

About Jalen Hurts

After a standout college career with the Crimson Tide and Sooners, Hurts was selected by the Eagles with the No. 53 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Hurts quickly became a special player in Philadelphia’s offense. As a rookie, he threw for six touchdowns and ran for three more while being the backup QB for most of the season.

In 2021, Hurts became the Eagles’ starter and led Philadelphia to the postseason. Last season, the signal-caller had a breakout season and appeared to be the MVP frontrunner for much of the year.

In 15 games played in 2022, Hurts passed for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a completion rate of 66.4 percent. He also rushed for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

During his three seasons in the league, Hurts has thrown for 7,906 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. He owns a career completion percentage of 62.3. Hurts has also run for 1,898 yards and 26 touchdowns in 45 regular season games played.
