Utah Jazz Announce Rookie Micah Potter Will Miss 4-6 Weeks

Jan 25, 2023, 2:27 PM | Updated: Jul 12, 2023, 2:07 pm

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz rookie Micah Potter is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks the team announced on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old signed a two-way contract with the Jazz in September before the regular season began.

“Potter was examined Jan. 21 by the Utah Jazz medical staff and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing,” the team announced. “The MRI revealed loose body fragments in his right elbow. Potter will undergo surgery to remove the loose body fragments from his elbow on Jan. 27 and be reevaluated in four to six weeks.”

The two-way rookie has appeared in three games for the Jazz this season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds.

Potter has averaged 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists with the Salt Lake City Stars in 12 appearances.

Micah Potter Before Joining Jazz

Potter is in his second NBA season after making three appearances for the Detroit Pistons last year.

The center signed a 10-day deal with Detroit in December and played a total of 31 minutes with the team.

Potter also played for the Sioux Falls SkyForce, the Miami Heat G League affiliate after going unselected in the 2021 NBA draft.

In September, Potter was signed and waived by the Pistons in order to join their G League affiliate the Motor City Cruise, but agreed to the two-way deal with the Jazz before the beginning of training camp.

Potter started all 33 games for the SkyForce at center last season and averaged 17.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

The big man shot 44 percent from the three-point line in Sioux Falls and was named to G League All-Rookie team.

Potter began his college career at Ohio State in 2016 where he averaged 4.1 points in two seasons with the Buckeyes.

The center spent the final two years of his career with the Wisconsin Badgers where his numbers climbed to 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

NBA teams are permitted to carry two two-players at any time throughout the regular season. Players on two-way contracts can be waived with no penalty to free up an additional two-way roster spot.

Currently, Potter and rookie Johnny Juzang occupy the Jazz two-way roster spots.
