OGDEN, Utah – Weber State couldn’t recapture the magic that led to a last second win earlier in the week, coming up short against Montana State 67-52.

The Montana State Bobcats (12-7, 5-1) hosted Weber State (8-10, 3-2) at Worthington Arena in Bozeman, MT on Saturday, January 14.

Weber State is coming off an emotional high after a last second steal and three gave the Wildcats a 59-57 win over Montana on January 12.

The Bobcats have won three straight. In their last game, Montana State enjoyed an 81-68 victory over Idaho State.

Steven Verplancken’s 16 points led the Wildcats. Dillon Jones was the only other WSU player to reach double-figures, finishing with 13 in the loss.

Jubrile Belo led all scorers with 17 points also grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double.

First Half

Weber State opened the game looking like the lingering affects from an emotional win on Thursday might be sapping their legs.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 17-8 lead as Weber State couldn’t find the range in the opening minutes. WSU shot just 27 percent in the first 12 minutes, going 0-for-5 from deep.

Dillon Jones broke the Wildcats stretch of ineptitude, knocking down a three to bring his team with eight, 20-12.

Late in the half after a Weber State turnover, Raequan Battle electrified the Bobcat faithful with a windmill dunk, giving the Bobcats a 35-19 lead.

Montana State closed the half on a 14-0 run to take a 39-19 lead into the break. Weber State was scoreless over the final 3:23 of the half.

Second Half

Weber State opened the second half hot, making five of six shots to go on a 10-0 run. Dillon Jones led the way, scoring six points and grabbing two boards during the run.

On the other end of the spectrum, Montana State opened the half 0-of-7 from the field.

Montana State went on to score seven straight points before Steven Verplancken connected on a three, triggering a timeout. Weber State trailed 46-32 with 12:35 remaining.
