PROVO, Utah – BYU quarterback Jaren Hall made the first step toward a career in the NFL. The star signal-caller accepted an invitation to play in the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

There’s still no formal announcement from Hall himself. Players can pull out of a commitment from a Senior Bowl and return to school, but it’s not common.

BYU head coach Kalani Sitake told KSL Sports that he is OK waiting for an official announcement from Jaren Hall.

“I just think that if he needs time, then that’s great. I don’t want to put him on a deadline because if there’s a chance that he could come back, then that’s the guy we want,” Sitake said on December 21.

Hall joins BYU offensive tackle Blake Freeland and wide receiver Puka Nacua as the three players that have accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl.

The 2023 Senior Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 4, in Mobile, Alabama. But the most critical piece to being a Senior Bowl invite is the practices throughout the week. NFL staffs coach up draft hopefuls and face some of the best competition from college football. In addition, the Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game.

According to the Senior Bowl website, the rosters for the game “are a mixture of college standouts and potential prospects that project best to the NFL with a particular interest in those that are rated above the 5th round.”

Hall takes up the fifth of six spots for quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl. The other four signal-callers that have committed to compete in Mobile include Fresno State’s Jake Haener, Houston’s Clayton Tune, TCU’s Max Duggan, and Shepherd Univerity’s Tyson Bagent.

Hall started in 24 games for BYU posting a record of 16-8 in those starts. Over the past two seasons, he was the full-time starter in 22 games. Hall passed for 5,754 yards, 51 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions in his two seasons as the starting quarterback.
