SALT LAKE CITY – Lauri Markkanen made another case for an All-Star spot as the Utah Jazz snapped their losing streak with a 126-111 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Markkanen tied his career high with 38 points to go with five rebounds in 36 minutes on the floor. He set a career-high with nine three-pointers on 13 attempts. Jordan Clarkson chipped in 21 points and six assists. Jarred Vanderbilt added a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, along with six assists.

For the Pistons, Jaden Ivey led the way with 30 points. Former Jazzman Bojan Bogdanovic had 15 points.

First Half

Lauri Markkanen picked up where he left off on Monday night against the Cavaliers. The Finnish big man scored 13 of the Jazz’ first 28 points. With less than one minute left in the opening period, Markkanen hit a three-pointer and was fouled in the process. Unfortunately for Markkanen, he missed the free throw.

At the end of the first quarter, the Jazz held a 31-24 lead over the Pistons. Markkanen finished the first 12 minutes with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Malik Beasley dropped two triples in the first quarter, scoring six points.

The Pistons were led by Bojan Bogdanovic with seven points.

The second quarter was a vast improvement for the Pistons, outscoring the Jazz 36-30. Utah had a one-point lead at the half, 61-60. Pistons rookie guard Jaden Ivey went off in the second quarter and finished the first half with 18 points. Jordan Clarkson reached double figures for the Jazz with 14 points at the break.

Second Half

The Jazz took the momentum back in the third quarter by outscoring the Pistons 34-25 to take a 95-85 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Markkanen and Clarkson combined for 49 points through three quarters.

For the Pistons, Jalen Duren had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds through three. Bogdanovic scored eight points in the third quarter after going scoreless in the second.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Jazz went on a mini 9-3 run to take a 109-94 lead with 7:32 left and forced the Pistons to call a timeout.

Lauri Markkanen tied his career-high with 38 points after drilling his ninth triple of the game to give the Jazz a 119-98 lead with 3:37 to play.

The Jazz improved its record to 18-16 on the season. They will return to Vivint Arena to face the Washington Wizards on Thursday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. MT on AT&T SportsNet and the KSL Sports Zone.
