PROVO, Utah – BYU football has received a transfer portal commitment from UNLV’s Aidan Robbins.

Robbins ran for 1,011 yards during the 2022 season with the Rebels. He joins a BYU running back room that loses Chris Brooks, Lopini Katoa, and potentially Jackson McChesney.

Robbins began his college career at the University of Louisville, the hometown school. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound running back prepped at Manual High School in Louisville.

But after the conclusion of his prep career, BYU nearly landed the heralded recruit in the 2019 recruiting cycle. BYU was a finalist for Robbins, as he took an official visit to Provo during his high school recruitment.

Aidan Robbins was close to picking BYU out of high school

When Robbins took his official visit to BYU four years ago, his parents wanted him to attend the faith-based university in Provo.

“My parents, they were blown away, honestly. They really wanted me to reconsider and look further into BYU. Especially after talking to the coaching staff and just knowing that when I’m away from home, I would be taken care of,” said Robbins to 247Sports in 2018.

Robbins was only the 10th UNLV football player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

BYU has a strong history with Transfer Portal running backs

Since the Transfer Portal was created in 2018, BYU has succeeded with portal running backs in Ty’Son Williams and Chris Brooks. During that time, BYU also produced the single-season rushing leader in school history in Tyler Allgeier, who is now with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

Robbins graduated from the University of Louisville in three years. So he comes to BYU eligible to play immediately in 2023. Robbins has two years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.

The 2023 season will be BYU’s first season as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Robbins is BYU’s second transfer portal commitment in the 2023 cycle. The other verbal commitment is former Boise State kicker Will Ferrin.
