Utah Valley Drops Close Contest To Morgan State In Jamaica Classic

OREM, Utah – For the second consecutive game, the Utah Valley Wolverines suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime after falling to Morgan State 73-72 in the Jamaica Classic.

Morgan State outscored Utah Valley 35-32 in the first half before the Wolverines returned the favor, 36-33 in the second half to force overtime. Le’Tre Darthard made a layup with 16 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. In the extra period, Jaden McClanahan knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Wolverines a 70-68 lead.

Darthard extended the advantage with two free throws, giving UVU a four-point lead. Morgan State answered with a three-pointer by Khalil Turner. With 42 seconds left in overtime, Toto Fagbenle hit two free throws to put the Bears up by one point. Utah Valley had chances down the stretch but couldn’t get any shots to fall.

Aziz Bandaogo led the Wolverines with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. Darthard chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, while Justin Harmon added 11 points. Utah Valley shot 34% from the field, 16% from the three-point line, and 80% at the free-throw line.

For Morgan State, Malik Miller led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Isaiah Burke dropped 15 points and three rebounds. Turner finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The Bears shot 46% from the floor, 36% from beyond the arc, and 58% at the free throw line.

Utah Valley entered the game coming off of a heartbreaking overtime loss on the road against Wake Forest in ACC country on Tuesday. The Wolverines dropped their record to 2-3 on the season. They will play one more game in the Jamaica Classic on Sunday, November 20 against Green Bay at 5:30 p.m. MT on HBCUgo.
