SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 11 Lone Peak Knights travelled to Syracuse to take on the No. 6 Titans on KSL Sport’s Game Night Live.

First Half

An early interception and return to the 10-yard line set the Titans up in excellent position. Syracuse took advantage, scoring a touchdown off of a Philly Special with 9:42 left in the first.

On the drive following the interception for Lone Peak, they converted on two 3rd downs, making it into Titan territory. However, they met a stonewall immediately after. Choosing to go for it on fourth down, Lone Peak fell a yard short.

The early struggles for Lone Peak continued on defense, getting multiple offside penalties which led to the Titans ending the first quarter inside the redzone. The Knights defense stepped up with their backs against the wall though, forcing the Titans to take a field goal and a 10-point lead.

Lone Peak came back strong in the second. A big gain through the air set the Knights up on the other side of the field. It was their where senior quarterback Kaden Hodson threw a touchdown in the back right corner of the endzone, bringing the score to 10-7.

After the Lone Peak touchdown, both teams went 3 & out on their next drive.

Syracuse capped off a long-winded 2nd quarter drive with a Brevin Hamblin touchdown out of the Wildcat formation!

With only a minute left before the half, a tipped pass turned into a near 50-yard gain for the Knights. Once inside the 10-yard line, it took 4 downs and every second on the clock, but Lone Peak scored a touchdown at the buzzer. Shaun Blanton was on the receiving end of the touchdown, his second of the first half.

Second Half

Syracuse’s first possession of the second half didn’t go as planned. Faced with a 4th & 3, a fake punt was attempted but not converted. Lone Peak took over on their own 40.

The Knights couldn’t take advantage of the turnover on downs, going 3 & out before punting. The punt was textbook on the bright side, travelling 44 yards before coming to a rest at the 10 yard line.

Syracuse had a 3rd & 12 from the 8-yard line and threw a bomb to the 44 of Lone Peak territory. A loss of 2, a penalty. and an incompletion led to a 4th & 21 for the Titans.

On the Titans ensuing drive, a fumble brought them back to the 5-yard line. The Lone Peak defense stepped up to the plate, forcing a safety and bringing the lead down to one point.

Lone Peak couldn’t take advantage on the offensive end, going 3 & out yet another time. However, the Lone Peak defense stepped up again and got a stop.

The Knights put together a great drive, getting down into the redzone with 7 minutes left in regulation. However, penalties and losses forced them into a 4th & 40 punting situation.

After a 3 & out on the next Titans possession, Lone Peak blocked a punt and recovered it on the 10-yard line.

With great field position following the blocked punt, the Knights took the lead on 2nd & goal behind the arm of Hodson.

Lone Peak got an interception with less than 2 minutes left in the game on a shot to the endzone by Syracuse. After going 3 & out, the Knights had to punt back to the Titans with a minute left.

The Titans made it into the redzone, but couldn’t make it to the endzone after 4 attempts. Lone Peak beat Syracuse in a thriller, 22-17. The Titan’s were on a 9-game win streak ahead of this matchup.
