No. 21 Olympus Upsets No. 12 Payson To Advance In Playoffs

PAYSON, Utah – The No. 21 Olympus Titans went on the road and upset the No. 12 Payson Lions to advance from the first round of the 5A state playoffs.
The Lions hosted the Titans on Friday, October 21.
Olympus beat Payson, 24-8.
The Titans took advantage of four interceptions to capture the first round victory and move on to the next round of postseason action.

Olympus started its scoring thanks to one of the four turnovers less than two minutes into the contest.
With 10:03 left in the first quarter, the Titans found the end zone on defense with a big pick-six by Weston Olsen.

At the end of the opening quarter, Will Rigby connected on a 38-yard field goal to help the Titans extend their lead to 10-0.
After a scoreless start to the second quarter, Jackson Godfrey got Olympus back across the goal line with a three-yard run for six points and a 17-0 lead.

The Titans took the 17-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, Godfrey scored again to make it 24-0 Titans with 6:55 to go until the final 12 minutes of game time.

With 13 seconds left in the third quarter, Cooper Swasey pulled in a 14-yard pass from Kade Edwards to get the Lions on the scoreboard for the first time.

The Lions were unable to add to their total over the final quarter and suffered a 16-point loss at home to end their 2022 campaign. Godfrey led the Titans with two touchdowns in the win.
With the result, Payson dropped to a 7-4 record to close out its season. Olympus improved its record to 6-5 with the upset playoff victory.
The Titans will move on to the second round and will face No. 5 Brighton on Friday, October 28 at 6 p.m. MT.
