SALT LAKE CITY – Newcomers Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler showed Utah Jazz fans their growing chemistry with a pretty alley-oop in the first quarter against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Jazz have relied heavily on Kessler for minutes off the bench after acquiring him in the Rudy Gobert trade in July

Against the Mavericks, Sexton drove into the paint and found Kessler with the alley-oop rolling in from the dunker spot.

In three preseason games Kessler is averaging 8.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in just over 18 minutes per game.

Sexton, meanwhile, is averaging 10.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 19 minutes after the Jazz acquired him in the Donovan Mitchell trade.

Kessler opened the game against the Mavericks with four points on 2-2 shooting in the first quarter, finishing another dunk assisted by Sexton after their alley-oop.

Jazz Close Preseason Against Mavericks

The Jazz are 1-2 in their first three preseason outings with losses to the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs, divided by a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Mavericks are 1-1 in preseason play and will also conclude their exhibition schedule against the Jazz on Friday.

The Jazz were without three players in their preseason finale when they faced the Mavericks as Malik Beasley, Udoka Azubuike, and Simone Fontecchio all missed the game.

Beasley suffered an ankle sprain in the first quarter against the Portland Trail Blazers, but despite returning to the game in the second quarter, has not appeared in the Jazz last three halves of basketball.

Azubuike suffered a significant ankle injury last season while playing with the Salt Lake City Stars and has yet to appear in the preseason.

The former first-round draft pick went through full practice with the Jazz for the first time on Thursday since the injury but has not been cleared to play in games.

Fontecchio was added to the Jazz injury list on Friday morning due to a left quadriceps contusion. The Italian rookie averaged 4.3 points in three preseason appearances for the Jazz.

The Jazz roster currently sits at 17 players and must be trimmed to 15 players by October 18.
