49ers’ Wishnowsky Shines In Low-Scoring Loss To Broncos

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah Utes and current San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky shined during his team’s low-scoring defeat to the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.
The Broncos hosted the 49ers at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, September 25.
Denver came back to beat San Francisco, 11-10.

In the low-scoring affair, Wishnowsky had multiple opportunities to show off his skills as the Niners punted the ball seven times. However, in addition to winning on the scoreboard, the Broncos outdid the 49ers with 10 punts on the night.
It was an ugly game for much of the night, but when Wishnowksy stepped onto the field, he displayed his talents.
The former Utah standout had three punts that landed inside the Denver 20-yard line and pinned the Broncos to start possessions. Wishnowksy had only two touchbacks on the night and averaged 51.7 yards per kick. The punter’s longest kick of the game went 74 yards.

Earlier in September, the 49ers signed Wishnowksy to a multi-year contract extension. Wishnowsky’s new deal is for four more years and runs through the end of the 2026 season.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wishnowsky’s new contract with pay him $3 million annually and has a maximum value of $13 million.

Despite Wisnowsky’s efforts and a solid performance by San Francisco’s defense, the 49ers weren’t able to hold onto the lead that they had for 48:46 of the game following their lone touchdown in the first quarter until the 4:10 mark of the fourth.
With the result, the Broncos improved to a 2-1 record this season and the 49ers dropped to 1-2.
Denver’s next game is on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, October 2 at 2:25 p.m. (MDT).
San Francisco is back in action on Monday, October 3 when it hosts the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football at 6:15 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.
