Nacua Returns, Cosper Catches TD To Give BYU Lead Over Wyoming

PROVO, Utah – BYU wide receivers Puka Nacua and Brayden Cosper made big plays to help the Cougars score and take a lead into the halftime break against the Wyoming Cowboys.
The No. 19 Cougars hosted the Cowboys at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, September 24.
During BYU’s final drive of the first half, Nacua and Cosper showed their skills for a pair of important plays that helped the Cougars take a four-point lead into the locker room.
With 1:05 remaining in the second quarter and the Cougars facing a 3rd & 6, Jaren Hall avoided pressure and let loose on a pass into the secondary. Nacua snagged the ball out of the air to help BYU moves the chains and continue its drive following the first down reception.

Seven plays later, Hall hit Cosper in the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown that put BYU in front of Wyoming at halftime, 14-10. It was Cosper’s first career touchdown catch.
The touchdown capped a 13-play, 76-yard drive that took 3:28 off the clock.
At halftime, Hall was 13/17 passing for 170 yards and a touchdown. He also added five rushes for 13 yards with his legs.
Nacua had one catch for 13 yards and Cosper posted two receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Wyoming vs. BYU
It’s the first meeting between these two schools since the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. These two programs were once Mountain West and WAC rivals. They used to play on an annual basis, with the last regular season meeting taking place in 2010.
Outside of Utah and Utah State, BYU has never played a team more than Wyoming. BYU’s first win as a program came against Wyoming back in 1922. There’s a history between the two schools. Anyone around for those LaVell Edwards/Paul Roach games or the 1996 WAC Championship would tell you BYU/Wyoming used to be something back in the day.
Wyoming hasn’t won in Provo since 1987. BYU has won the last eight meetings in the series, with Wyoming’s last victory coming in 2003 against a BYU team that finished 4-8.
