HERRIMAN – The Bingham Miners bounced back from a slow start to defeat the Mountain Ridge Sentinels and pick up a road victory on Game Night Live.

The No. 18 Sentinels hosted the No. 8 Miners on Friday, September 23.

Bingham beat Mountain Ridge, 24-13.

The Miners opened the contest on offense and quickly marched the ball down the field and into Sentinel territory. However, with 8:47 left in the first quarter, Connor Priest forced a fumble and Brayden Pace recovered the ball for Mountain Ridge.

A little over a minute later, Jaxson Reiser broke loose and sprinted down the middle of the field for 68 yards a touchdown. The big play resulted in the first score of the night. Reiser’s run gave Mountain Ridge a 7-0 lead with 7:46 remaining in the opening quarter.

With 3:36 left in the quarter, the Sentinels tacked on three more points with a field goal by Brody Laga. The scoring drive was set up by a massive run from Semisi Kinikini.

At the end of the quarter, the Sentinels owned a 10-point advantage.

Bingham bounced back during the first few minutes of the second quarter. With 9:55 left in the first half, Miners quarterback Dallen Martinez found paydirt and Bingham’s first points of the evening. Martinez’s run made it a 10-7 game.

Mountain Ridge extended its lead with another field goal by Laga at the 5:26 mark of the second quarter.

Late in the half, the Miners stunned the home crowd after Carson Sudbury ran across the goal line for a go-ahead score with 11 seconds remaining in the half. The run gave Bingham a 14-13 lead at the halftime break.

The Miners continued to steal the momentum early in the second half. With 7:06 left in the third quarter, Sudbury sprinted for 48 yards and another touchdown to give Bingham a 21-13 advantage. The Miners took the eight-point lead into the final 12 minutes of game time.

During the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Bingham connected on a field goal to stretch its lead to 24-13.

The Miners controlled the clock during the majority of the final quarter thanks to a solid rush attack. Mountain Ridge was unable to score in the final 29:26 of the game.

With the result, the Miners improved to a 5-2 record this season and the Sentinels fell to 5-2.

Bingham’s next game is at home against the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. (MDT). Mountain Ridge’s next contest is at home against the West Jordan Jaguars on September 30 at 7 p.m.
