Pac-12 Issues Statement On College Football Playoff Expansion

SAN FRANCISCO- A lot has been made about the Pac-12’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff, but that could soon change. Friday afternoon, the Pac-12 released a statement upon the announcement college football will be moving from a four-team playoff to a 12-team playoff by 2026 at the latest.

“The Pac-12 is strongly in favor of CFP expansion and welcomes the decision of the CFP Board. CFP expansion will provide increased access and excitement and is the right thing for our student-athletes and fans. We look forward to working with our fellow conferences to finalize the important elements of an expanded CFP in order to launch as soon practicable.” – The Pac-12 Conference
Pac-12, College Football Playoff
Oregon was the first Pac-12 team to make the Playoffs in 2014 with Washington being the second in 2016. Utah flirted with the moment in 2019 before losing in the Conference Championship Game to Oregon.
The Utes possibly have their best chance since 2019 this season to be the third Pac-12 team to make the Playoff if they can handle business against Florida this weekend, USC on October 15th, and Oregon at Autzen on November 19th.
