SALT LAKE CITY – Snow Canyon is on the brink of the Little League World Series and has created fans around the state of Utah, including Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell.

The All-Star guard tweeted his support for the team that won their regional semifinal on Tuesday night.

“Shoutout to Snow Canyon Little League,” Mitchell tweeted. “I always wanted to play in the Little League World Series!! This is dope.”

Snow Canyon, the Utah team that hails from Santa Clara beat Henderson, Nevada’s Paseo Verde Tuesday night in dramatic fashion to move one win away from the International Tournament.

After Paseo Verde took an early 3-0 lead, Snow Canyon tied the score at four in the bottom of the fifth inning before winning with a two-out, walk-off base hit from Colton Gainey in the bottom of the sixth.

On Friday, Snow Canyon will play the winner of Billings, Montana’s Boulder Arrowhead, and Paseo Verde for a chance to advance to the Little League World Series which is played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Mitchell grew up playing baseball and basketball and is an avid New York Mets fan. His father, Donovan Mitchell Sr. works in the Mets organization.

Amid rampant trade speculation, Mitchell has spent the majority of his time on the east coast between New York and Miami this summer but took time to tweet his support for the local Utah little league team.

Entering his sixth season in the NBA, Mitchell has become one of the premiere shooting guards in the league. Mitchell has career averages of 23.9 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 345 appearances for the Jazz.

The guard was originally selected by the Denver Nuggets on draft night in 2017 but was traded to the Jazz for forward Trey Lyles and rookie Tyler Lydon.

Snow Canyon would be the first team from Utah to qualify for the Little League World Series.
