SALT LAKE CITY- Kyle Kuzma and Delon Wright teamed up on the game winning shot for the Powder League’s Charity Showcase that benefitted Utah Foster Care Tuesday night. Kuzma and Wright were teammates at Utah from 2014-2015 and recently became teammates again in 2022 with the Washington Wizards in the NBA. It was clear throughout the night the pair were comfortable with each other and fitting they would be the ones to end the event on a high note.

 Powder League Charity Showcase

The Powder League teamed up with two other former Utes in Brandon Taylor and Lawrence Borha to put on their Charity Showcase that featured NBA star power not only from Kuzma and Wright, but NBA Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as well. There was one other familiar face playing in the showcase in Devon Daniels who briefly played for the Utes in 2017.

Former Jazz men Raul Neto and Thurl Bailey were in attendance.

Utah Foster Care holds a special place in the Powder League’s heart because of Ibraham Gerlach, a former Alta High basketball player who has played in the league and was part of the foster care system growing up.

Unbreakable Bond

Often when we talk about the “Utah brotherhood” it’s in reference to Utah football, but the Runnin’ Utes have their own network that shows up for each other too. Taylor, Borha, Wright, and Kuzma all played at varying times in recent Utah basketball history, but were quick to heed the call when an opportunity presented itself to give back to the Salt Lake community. Taylor says he loves the bond they all have, and that he can count on his brothers anytime he needs them.

“It’s a great feeling that I don’t ever take for granted,” Taylor said. “Those guys along with other guys like Dakari [Tucker]- we are still so heavily tight. Our summers we are either in L.A. or like you see they’ll come up for a camp. Having relationships like that and still having that brotherhood- you can’t really put it into words. It’s just like being able to have friends that you can call real friends. Having that brotherhood is an amazing feeling.”
