SALT LAKE CITY  – Entering his third season in the NBA, former Utah Jazz backup point guard Trent Forrest has signed with the Atlanta Hawks.

Forrest and the Hawks announced the signing via social media on Monday, August 8.

The Jazz chose not to renew Forrest’s contract after he spent two season’s with the team following going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Atlanta Hawks

Forrest joins an Atlanta team trying improve after falling to the eight-seed in the eastern conference following an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2021.

Led by All-Star guard Trae Young, Atlanta boast a deep guard line with Bogdan Bogdanovic, Aaron & Justin Holiday, Dejounte Murray, A.J. Griffin Jr. and Tyrese Martin. Forrest will have an uphill battle to crack the Hawks rotation but his size, athleticism and court vision make him an attractive option for a team looking for defensive contribution out of their guards.

About Trent Forrest

A 6’4, 210 pound, 24-year old point guard, Forrest was born in Dothan, Alabama.

Forrest played collegiately under Leonard Hamilton at Florida State.

In 137 games as a Seminole (69 starts), Forrest averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He finished his college career as the program’s all-time winningest player with 104 wins, ranked third in steals (224) and games played (137), while ranking fifth in assists (455) and 10th in free throws made (336).

In two seasons with the Jazz, Forrest played in 90 games while starting six.

As a rookie on a two-way contract during the 2020-21 season, Forrest averaged 2.9 points and 1.5 assists per game.

He began year two on a two-way deal but showed enough promise to have that converted in a regular roster spot as he appeared more comfortable on the floor and with making quicker decisions overall as a playmaker.

Forrest finished his second season with averages of 3.3 points and 1.8 assists per game while being one of a handful of Jazz players with the ability to beat a defender off of the dribble.
