OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines announced that they will participate in the 2022 Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay, Jamaica in November.

Utah Valley will join seven other teams in the Jamaica Classic that will take place November 18-20 at the Montego Bay Convention Center in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The Wolverines will join a field that includes Georgetown, Loyola Marymount, Wake Forest, LaSalle, Wisconsin Green Bay, Morgan State, and Queens. UVU will open the tournament against Morgan State on November 18 and will play the winner/loser of Queens and Wisconsin Green Bay.

“We are excited to be competing in this year’s Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic,” said Utah Valley head coach Mark Madsen. “We always want to give our players the opportunity to play a strong and competitive non-conference schedule. This event allows us to play games against high-level teams in a beautiful part of the world. It will be a great experience for our student-athletes and a destination that our fans can travel to and enjoy.”

The games will be televised and streamed by CBS Sports Network.

“We are thrilled the tournament is back in arguably the most iconic destination in the Caribbean—beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica,” said Jacob Ridenhour, Jamaica Classic Executive Director. “Soaking in all that paradise offers — 85-degree sunshine, great basketball, the sounds of reggae music and the aroma of the jerk pit grilling – there’s no better destination for a college fan to enjoy a basketball getaway. Come find out why they call Jamaica the heartbeat of the world.”

Mark Madsen returns eight players, including three starters from last year’s team that compiled a 20-12 record, including victories over NCAA Tournament teams BYU and New Mexico State. However, they did lose star big man Fardaws Aimaq who decided to test the NBA Draft waters before entering the portal and will play for Texas Tech this season.
