SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz picked up their first win of Summer League action by defeating the Atlanta Hawks 72-66 in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.

Jared Butler shined in the win for the Jazz, posting 15 points, seven assists and two steals in his 2022 Vegas Summer League debut. James Palmer Jr. added 10 points, while Bruno Caboclo chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.

Johnny Juzang made his Jazz debut after missing the three Salt Lake City Summer League games due to concussion protocol following a car accident in Utah. Leandro Bolmaro made his Jazz debut as well. He was involved in the trade between the Jazz and Timberwolves that sent Rudy Gobert to Minnesota.

In the first quarter, the Jazz had a great flow offensively, while the Hawks were struggling to find a rhythm until near the end of the period. After the first quarter, the Jazz had a 21-13 lead, shooting 56% from the field. Bruno Caboclo led the Jazz with six points in the opening quarter, while James Palmer Jr. added five points.

Jared Butler had four points, four assists, one steal and a block. For Atlanta, they shot just 35% from the floor.

In the second quarter, the Hawks continued to struggle from the field, missing eight straight shots at one point. They were able to close the gap towards the end of the quarter. The Jazz outscored the Hawks 18-13 in the second quarter and had a 39-26 lead at the break. Caboclo had 11 points to lead the Jazz. Chaundee Brown Jr. had six points to lead Atlanta.

It was a closer third quarter as the Jazz only outscored the Hawks 22-18 but their lead was 61-44 heading into the fourth quarter. Butler was up to 13 points to lead the Jazz, along with seven assists and two steals. None of the Hawks players were in double figures through three quarters. Chaundee Borwn Jr. had nine points to lead the way.

The Jazz was sluggish to start the fourth quarter by scoring just three points in the first three and a half minutes. The Hawks pulled within 13 points with a small 9-3 run.

Atlanta made another run and was with seven points with one minute left but it was too late.

The Jazz improved their Las Vegas Summer League record to 1-0. They will be back in action on Monday, July 11 at 8:00 PM MT on NBA TV.
