Roger Goodell Believes NFL Sunday Ticket Will Move To Streaming Service

SALT LAKE CITY – Roger Goodell touched on the NFL Sunday Ticket and mentioned that he thinks they will move it to a streaming service.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had a sit-down interview with CNBC on Friday in Sun Valley, Idaho when he was asked about the Sunday Ticket.
“These discussions have gone on well over a year,” Goodell told CNBC. “It is an important decision for us because these assets are really valuable to us. I clearly believe we will be moving to a streaming service. I think that is best for the consumers at this stage. But we have so much interest right now and there is so much innovation around that and how we are going to be able to change the way people watch football. We’ll have some decision by the fall.”

Goodell is attending the Allen & Co. conference along with many media and tech executives, many of whom are NFL rightsholders. Among the streaming services trying to snatch the NFL Sunday Ticket includes ESPN+, Apple TV+, Peacock, Amazon and Paramount+.
The Sunday Ticket’s deal is currently with DirecTv, which allows subscribers to watch any NFL game on Sundays no matter where they live. Their current deal expires after the 2022 NFL season.
Apple TV is a major player in sports streaming after agreeing to a massive deal with Major League Soccer. Amazon just took the rights to Thursday Night Football and is going all out on their coverage after taking legendary play-by-play voice Al Michaels from NBC and using ESPN’s lead college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit as their commentary team.
Peacock has been streaming more games recently in partnership with NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
Regardless of which streaming service picks up the Sunday Ticket, they will be paying a massive price for an important product that NFL fans love.
