SALT LAKE CITY – Former Jazzman Rudy Gobert was officially introduced as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves after the trade became official on Wednesday.

Just hours after the trade between the Jazz and Timberwolves became official for Rudy Gobert, they held a press conference in Minnesota. Gobert mentioned that he knew about the possibility of the Timberwolves being a landing spot days before the reports surfaced.

He admitted that he was a little surprised that the Timberwolves were interested in him and is now excited to be a member of the organization.

A Timberwolves media member asked Gobert why he thought the Jazz traded him.

“That’s a good question,” Gobert said. “I think obviously losing Quin (Snyder), he was there for eight years and was a big part of what we were doing. Sometimes the window for winning is not always big. For us in Utah, it was kind of what happened. I think the organization felt that maybe we had passed that window we had over the last few years. I think they will be a very competitive team but they just felt like all the assets they could get with me, that it was better to go that way. I think it could potentially be a win-win situation.”

Despite stating in the past that he wanted to end his career in Utah, Gobert was grateful that the organization traded him to a team that can be successful right away.

“They also put me in a great position to win,” Gobert added. “For me, that’s why I am really grateful for that. They put me on a team where I can keep flourishing and hopefully win a championship. For them, I really hope that they will be able to get better and better and hopefully get to that stage that we were a few years ago. We didn’t get past the second round but we were first in the west. It doesn’t happen often. It’s never easy.”
