Jazz Lose Danuel House Jr. To 76ers

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz free agent wing Danuel House will not be returning to the team next season after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.

Both ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news shortly after free agency opened across the league.

House Jr. signed with the Jazz to a 10-day COVID-19 contract in January as the team was depleted by injury and illness and quickly made his impact felt on the roster.

The wing’s hustle and hot three-point shooting provided a much-needed boost to the lackadaisical roster.

In 25 appearances with the Jazz House Jr. averaged 6.8 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting an impressive 41 percent from the three-point line.

House Jr. appeared in all six playoff games for the Jazz but saw his three-point shooting percentage dip to 20 percent.

The departure is the latest move in a busy day for the Jazz who opted against extending offers to make Trent Forrest and Eric Paschall restricted free agents, traded forward Royce O’Neale to the Brooklyn Nets for a first round draft pick, then chose to allow forward Juancho Hernangomez to hit unrestricted free agency.

Between House Jr., Paschall, and O’Neale, and Hernangomez, the Jazz have lost significant depth on the perimeter and will have to look to fill the void in free agency or via trades.

As it stands, the Jazz currently have just nine players under contract for the 2022-23 season, plus the two-way contract of rookie Johnny Juzang.
