CHARLOTTE, NC – Kenny Atkinson’s tenure as coach of the Charlotte Hornets is over before it started.
A person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Atkinson has reversed course and will not take over as coach of the Hornets.
ESPN Sources: Kenny Atkinson has decided he won’t become the Charlotte Hornets’ head coach and will remain with Golden State as top assistant. After being offered job during the NBA Finals, further conversations led Atkinson to believe it would be best to remain with Warriors.

The move came Saturday, more than a week after the Golden State assistant had agreed to a four-year contract.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because neither Atkinson nor the Hornets revealed any details of the talks or agreement publicly.
