SALT LAKE CITY – The first domino from Quin Snyder’s departure from the Utah Jazz has fallen as assistant coach Dell Demps is reportedly heading to Minnesota to join Tim Connelly’s staff with the Timberwolves.

Snyder resigned from his head coaching position with the Jazz on Sunday leaving the future of the team’s assistants up in the air.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news of Demps exit.

“The Minnesota Timberwolves are hiring Jazz assistant coach and former Pelicans GM Dell Demps as part of new President Tim Connelly’s front office, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski,” Charania tweeted.

Demps was the general manager of the Austin Toros when Synder was the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs D-League affiliate from 2007-2010.

The Pelicans and Demps parted ways in February of 2019 after nine years with the organization amid the Anthony Davis saga that ultimately ended with the superstar forward being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I was fortunate to work with Dell to begin my career as a head coach in professional basketball and I know he will delve into his role on the bench,” Snyder said.

Demps spent a brief time in the NBA, playing in 20 games over three professional seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Spurs, and Orlando Magic. According to Wojnarowski, Demps had attended practices with the Jazz since parting ways with the Pelicans.

“My traditional office when I was with the Austin Toros was the coffee shop around the corner,” Snyder remembered. “[Toros Executive] Dell Demps and I met there. And we had some great meetings and developed a great relationship.”

Demps suffered a knee injury while working out with the Jazz earlier this season prior to a game, and leaves the franchise after spending two seasons in Utah.

On Wednesday, Jazz CEO Danny Ainge announced that longtime assistant Alex Jensen would oversee the team’s summer league plans both in Salt Lake City and in Las Vegas beginning in July.
