SALT LAKE CITY – The hype around Utah Utes quarterback Cam Rising continues to build with the latest piece from ESPN ranking each QB in tiers.

ESPN writer David M. Hale published a piece on Wednesday that ranks each of the 131 college football quarterback situations in tiers, including Utah signal caller Cam Rising.

The 2022 season features a deep and talented quarterback position with playmakers all across the country. Rising is among the elite, listed as one of the top six QB’s in the country, according to the list released by ESPN.

ESPN Places Cam Rising In The ‘Heisman Waiting Room’ Tier

Of the 26 tiers listed, Rising is in the second tier that is considered the “Heisman Waiting Room.” The two players listed besides Rising includes NC State’s Devin Leary and Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke.

Here is what ESPN said about Rising:

“Like Van Dyke, Rising didn’t open the year as Utah’s starter, but once he took over, he was superb, finishing just shy of 3,000 total yards with 26 touchdowns while going 9-2 as the starter. The Utes scored 79 points in those two losses, by the way.”

The first tier is “Heisman or bust.” Three quarterbacks are on that list, including Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, USC signal caller Caleb Williams and Bryce Young from Alabama. ESPN has a 2a tier, which is “What’s a guy gotta do to get some Heisman love around here?” One player is on that tier and that’s Georgia QB Stetson Bennett.

Other Local QB’s Tiers

Former Corner Canyon and USC QB Jaxson Dart is in tier five, which is “so hot right now” as he enters his first season with Ole Miss. Dart joins Texas QB’s Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card, Blake Shapen from Baylor, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Cameron Ward from Washington State.

BYU quarterback Jaren Hall is on tier eight “best from outside of Power 5,” along with Houston’s Clayton Tune, Jake Heaner from Fresno State and UTSA QB Frank Harris.

Utah State signal caller Logan Bonner is in tier 12 “the best of the rest in the Group of 5,” joining East Carolina’s Holton Ahlers, Miami (Ohio) QB Brett Gabbert, Daniel Richardson from Central Michigan, Appalachian State’s Chase Brice, SMU QB’s Tanner Mordecai and Preston Stone, Air Force’s Haaziq Daniels and Cincinnati QB’s Evan Prater and Ben Bryant.
