SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah State and current Packers quarterback Jordan Love commented on Aaron Rodgers signing a contract extension with Green Bay this offseason.

Love spoke with the media during Green Bay’s OTAs on Wednesday, May 25.

During his time with reporters, Love commented on the reigning back-to-back NFL MVP signing a multi-year deal to stay with the Packers.

“Obviously, the dude deserves it what he’s done the last two years,” Love said of his quarterback back competition. “But personally for me, it just means that I’m about to be a backup again — for this year. And that’s all I can control right now. So I was happy for Aaron, but at the same time it’s like, ‘ah.’ You know?”

After Green Bay drafted Love during the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Utah State signal-caller spent the last two seasons as Rodgers’ backup and watched him with consecutive MVP awards.

Rodgers didn’t report to Green Bay’s OTAs and Love is currently leading the Packers’ first-team offense.

“[I]t was kind of the same because you didn’t know what was going to happen,” Love added. “And now that he’s signed, he’s back, I don’t think it changes anything for me. Like I said, I’m still here. I’m still going to do my job and I’m competing to try to be that guy if he wasn’t here, if he is here. So, he’s not here right now, so I’m the one getting all the 1s reps. So I look at it as I’m the guy right now.”

On November 7, 2021, Love started for the first time after Rodgers’ missed the Packers’ game against the Chiefs following a positive COVID-19 test.

Green Bay struggled to score and suffered a 13-7 loss on the road.

Love finished the game 19/34 passing for 190 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also had five carries for 23 yards.

Love’s performance drew questions from NFL analysts throughout the following week. Rodgers’ returned for Green Bay’s next game.

After not playing in 2020, Love wrapped up his second NFL season with 411 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He had a 58.1 completion rate in six games played.
