Transfer Portal Center Mo Njie Completes ‘Wonderful Visit’ To BYU

PROVO, Utah – The latest transfer portal prospect to visit BYU was Eastern Michigan center Mo Njie.
“Big Mo” is a 6-foot-10 center that BYU has been in contact with since March. He shared pictures from his official visit to BYU, where he wrote, “Thank you to head coach Mark Pope, BYU coaching staff, and all the fans and families for a wonderful visit [emojis] #GoCougs.”

Mo Njie was an All-MAC Freshman Team selection
During his one season with the Eagles, Njie was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team. Njie started in 25 games last season and averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The Centerville, Ohio native finished first during MAC play for field goal percentage from two-point range in KenPom’s metrics by shooting 71.4% in 18 league games.
With three years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career, Njie would have the opportunity to be part of BYU’s program as they transition into the Big 12 Conference beginning in 2023.
BYU basketball needs frontcourt additions
BYU has a pressing need in the frontcourt for next season. Mark Pope’s program returns All-WCC Freshman selection Fousseyni Traore and 6-foot-10 big man Atiki Ally Atiki, but after that, the frontcourt is lean. BYU lost Caleb Lohner to the Transfer Portal; the starting four transferred to future Big 12 foe Baylor.
Along with BYU, Njie had an official visit to SMU, a member of the American Athletic Conference. He’s also been in contact with Virginia Tech, Pitt, and others.
Njie grew up in a basketball family. His father, Baboucarr Njie, played D1 at Purdue Fort Wayne. His younger brother, Kebba, is a 2022 signee to Penn State.
BYU basketball has signed one transfer portal prospect this off-season in guard Rudi Williams from Coastal Carolina. After the addition of Williams, BYU still has three scholarships available for the 2022-23 roster.
