SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and current NFL linebacker Kyle Van Noy reached the finals of a cornhole tournament and spoke about signing with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Van Noy competed in the American Cornhole League’s Superhole III tournament on Saturday, May 7. The tourney took place at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah.

KVN and Cornhole

At the event, the former BYU star spoke with KSLSports.com about his cornhole skills and his new role with the Chargers.

Van Noy and his teammate, Sarah Cassidy, an ACL professional, competed against a duo featuring former NFL tight end Vernon Davis.

“This has been an event that’s been on my mind for a little bit and I got some good competition tonight with going against Vernon Davis… I’m excited for the challenge,” Van Noy told KSLSports.com’s Sam Farnsworth. “I’m excited to throw the bags and hopefully playing in the locker room all these years pays off.”

The years of cornhole practice in the locker rooms of the NFL paid off for Van Noy, who defeated Davis and reached the final round. Unfortunately for the former BYU standout, Van Noy and his partner were defeated in the finals.

Signing with Chargers

Van Noy recently signed with the Chargers and spoke about his opportunity with Los Angeles.

“I’m really excited to be part of L.A. since that’s where we’re living my family lives and I’m excited to embrace their culture that they have,” the linebacker said. “I’m excited to be a part of it.”

He also expressed gratitude for being able to play in the NFL for as long as he has. Van Noy is nearing a decade in the league.

“I’m excited that I get the opportunity to play ball again, year nine. I mean, it’s a dream come true. Not many people get and say that,” Van Noy added. “Hopefully I got enough juice left to keep going though. I don’t want it to stop here.”

About Kyle Van Noy

Prior to his time in the league, Van Noy played at BYU from 2o10-13.

After a standout career at BYU, Van Noy was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Following two and a half seasons with Detroit, the linebacker was traded to New England.

Van Noy played the next three and a half seasons with the Patriots and helped New England win a pair of Super Bowls.

After the 2019 season, the linebacker signed with the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins released Van Noy after one season in South Beach and he returned to New England on a two-year deal.

The 2021 season was the lone year of Van Noyā€™s second stint with the Patriots.

In 111 career games, the two-time Super Bowl champ has recorded 424 total tackles, 288 solo tackles, 28.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and one touchdown.
