Utah State Receives Strength Of Schedule Ranking From Phil Steele

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies will defend their Mountain West Conference title in 2022 with a schedule filled with difficult matchups this fall.

College Football analyst Phil Steele released his strength of schedule metric that ranks all FBS programs and he has Utah State at No. 95 in the nation.

Steele’s metric is a combination of opponents’ record from the 2021 season, win percentage, number of ranked teams, teams with winning records, bowl teams and their strength of schedule ranking within their conference.

Strength Of Schedule For Utah State

With Utah State coming in at No. 95 on the metric, they are No. 10 in the Mountain West. Boise State is the top MWC with the hardest schedule at No. 5 in the country, followed by Colorado State (14), UNLV (27), New Mexico (42), Hawai’i (45), Wyoming (59), Nevada (60), San Jose State (71), Air Force (81), Utah State (95), San Diego State (117) and Fresno State (126).

Utah State’s opponents have a combined record of 73-77 with a 48.7 win percentage. They will face two ranked teams, six of them had a winning record last season and six of them went to bowl games.

The toughest game for USU this season will be in Week 2 at Alabama on Saturday, September 3. Their other three non-conference games include at home against Connecticut on Saturday, August 27, Weber State on Saturday, September 10 and at BYU on Thursday, September 29.

In conference play this season, the Aggies will battle UNLV at home on Saturday, September 24, Air Force at home on Saturday, October 8, at Colorado State on Saturday, October 15, at Wyoming on Saturday, October 22, home versus New Mexico on Saturday, November 5, at Hawai’i on Saturday, November 12, home against San Jose State on Saturday, November 19 and at Boise State on Saturday, November 26.

Last season, Utah State finished with an 11-3 overall record and 6-2 in Mountain West play. They beat Washington State, North Dakota, Air Force, UNLV, Colorado State, Hawai’i, New Mexico State, San Jose State, New Mexico, San Diego State in the MW Championship game and Oregon State in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.

Their three losses came against Boise State, BYU and Wyoming.
