SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz dropped Game 3 of their playoff matchup to the Dallas Mavericks 126-118, giving Dallas a 2-1 lead in the series.

The Jazz trailed by as much as 17 in the third quarter, but a furious run by a small-ball lineup trimmed the Mavericks’ lead to just one in the fourth quarter, but ultimately it wasn’t enough.

Jalen Brunson scored 31 points to lead the Mavericks, while the Jazz were led by Donovan Mitchell with 32 in the loss.

First Quarter

The Jazz opened the game with an isolation-heavy attack, trying to get into the paint, but setting for difficult floaters.

The Mavericks continued to attack the Jazz guards off the dribble and found more success with their midrange game.

Maxi Kleber subbed in midway through the quarter and hit three consecutive three-point attempts to help the Mavericks extend their lead.

The Mavericks as a team knocked down 5-12 from the three-point line while the Jazz shot just 1-4.

After one, the Jazz trailed the Mavericks 27-20.

Second Quarter

Jalen Brunson continued to attack the Jazz defense, and as the defense collapsed on him, he found Josh Green on the perimeter for open threes.

After going 0-4 in game one, Green knocked down 3-4 from downtown for 10 points and added six assists in the first half.

After two hard shoves from Royce O’Neale, Brunson left the game, picking up a technical foul for his frustration.

Donovan Mitchell struggled for the Jazz scoring just four points and dishing out three assists in a 1-7 shooting performance.

At the break, the Jazz trailed the Mavericks 68-51.

Third Quarter

The Mavericks were able to hold onto their double-digit lead throughout the first six minutes of the third quarter, but Quin Snyder made a significant adjustment, pulling Rudy Gobert off the floor in favor of Eric Paschall.

The Jazz’s small lineup relentlessly attacked the Mavericks’ defense getting open dunks and kicking the ball out for threes.

With 5:33 left in the quarter, Paschall subbed in with the Jazz trailing 83-66, and the Jazz closed the quarter on a 25-14 run.

After three, the Jazz trailed the Mavericks 97-91.

Fourth Quarter

The Jazz stayed with the small lineup to open the fourth quarter through the first three minutes and trimmed the Mavericks’ lead to four before Snyder went back to Gobert.

A Mike Conley three trimmed the Maverick’s lead to just one, but a 4-0 run from Dallas kept the Jazz at arm’s length.

Snyder went back to the small lineup with Paschall at the 5:01 mark, but the experiment lasted less than two minutes as the Mavericks rebuilt their lead to seven.

Ultimately, the Jazz couldn’t overcome the 17 point deficit and fell 126-118.
