PROVO, Utah – BYU football has added additional reinforcements to its 2022 recruiting class. The “Royal Crew” in 2022 picked up a commitment from junior college defensive back Roman Rashada.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Rashada announced his commitment to BYU on social media.

“GOD, I hope they see me as a testimony of what you can do. You Have lead me and i have followed. Now it’s time to reach new heights. Time to be great. 100% COMMITTED! #GOCOUGS

Rashada will join BYU’s defensive back room this season. He has three years to play two after spending the previous two years at Diablo Valley College.

Rashada took an official visit to BYU’s campus two weeks ago and came away impressed with the faith-based campus. While on his trip, Rashada was accompanied by his brothers, Harlen Rashada and Jaden Rashada.

Both Harlen and Jaden are also football recruits. With Jaden, being the most heralded.

Jaden Rashada is a five-star quarterback prospect in the high school class of 2023. He holds offers from more than 30 programs at the FBS level. He responded to his brother’s commitment tweet to BYU saying, “God thank you. Beyond proud of you Rome. Through it all, you made it happen. Now go be great we’re just getting started I promise, maybe we’ll suit up together soon (fingers crossed emoji).”

BYU has made defensive backs a top priority since the early signing period concluded in December. Last month, BYU signed four high school defensive backs to join a room that needs more depth as they ramp up for life in the Big 12 Conference beginning in 2023.

In January, Rashada received an offer from BYU football coaches Ilaisa Tuiaki and Jernaro Gilford. Along with BYU, Washington from the Pac-12 Conference and Colorado State have offered the JUCO prospect, with other P5 schools expressing interest in Rashada taking visits on campus.

Rashada played in six games last season at Diablo Valley College, recording 12 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

During his high school career, he played both cornerback and safety. He could line up at either spot on the backend of BYU’s defense, but safety would appear to be a spot that could provide an immediate opportunity.
