Utah Women’s Basketball Receives 7-Seed In NCAA Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY – The field of 68 has been announced for the women’s basketball NCAA Tournament and the Utah Utes will be a 7-seed in the Big Dance.
It’s the first time since 2011 that Utah women’s basketball will participate in the NCAA Tournament. They will be in the Spokane Region and will face 10-seed Arkansas on Friday.

Utah Women’s Basketball NCAA Tournament History
In 2011, Utah reached the NCAA Tournament by winning the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship, beating TCU in the title game. They were 18-17 overall and 7-9 in conference play. Utah was a 15-seed, losing to 2-seed Notre Dame 67-54 in the first round.
Utah appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2009 as a 9-seed. They beat 8-seed Villanova by 30 points in the first round. Their Tournament run ended in the second round with a 71-56 loss to 1-seed Maryland.
The Utes appeared in the 2008 NCAA Tournament as an 8-seed, falling to 9-seed Purdue in the first round, 66-59. Utah made a deep run in 2005 as a 5-seed, beating 12-seed Middle Tennessee 76-71 in the first round. Then they beat 4-seed Arizona State 86-65 in the second round to reach the Sweet 16.
They were able to knock off 8-seed Boston College 57-54 to reach the Elite Eight. Their run ended with a 75-65 overtime loss to 2-seed Maryland.
